adventuresofamiddleagemom.com VBS Son Treasure Island final

As long-time member of Central Presbyterian Church in Montclair, N.J. I’ve helped out over the years with our Vacation Bible School (VBS), from leading crafts to decorating for the themed week. This year I was away for the actual VBS week, but I got to help my friend Kathy make some of the decorations that turned our church education building into SonTreasure Island. Kathy is one of those women who turns trash into treasure. Her imagination is remarkable. Sure, she got the SonTreasure Island starter kit, but Kathy goes beyond what’s in the book.

With my trusty glue gun, endless supply of glue sticks and sense of fun at the ready, I helped make Kathy’s imaginings come to life. And I had a blast doing it.

SonTreasure Island AdventuresofamiddleagemomI helped Kathy create palm trees, a tiki hut and vintage looking signs that evoked that island feel for the kids. I heard that Kathy even gave some imaginative snack tips to the snack team. How about a banana, kiwi, slice of white bread and blue food coloring all melded together to look like a palm tree on a desert island surrounded by blue, blue water?!

Take a look at some photos (taken by Kathy!) from Central Church’s SonTreasure Island VBS week!
